Who is a Business Preparer?

A Business Preparer is one to files returns for a single, or muiltple companies but is not the owner, or legally responsible for the returns.  This person is typically an employee of this company whose job responsibility is for filing returns for multiple EIN's under that organization.  A Business Preparer can purchase a license for 941Express that allows them to act as a Third Party Designee for these e-filed returns.  The 3rd Party Designee PIN is something established by the Business Preparer, but allows them to talk with the IRS about these returns by disclosing the PIN to an IRS representative.

What is a 3rd Party Designee?

A 3rd Party designee is a person who is filing a return for a business, but may not be a business principle or the owner of the company.  Typically, the IRS will not talk to an employee of a company about a tax related matter.  The 3rd party designee PIN allows that person to provide information to the IRS that they can confirm and verify that you are capable of having a tax related discussion with the bureau on behalf of the company.
